As the cars have advanced with more electronic components, we felt it was essential that we have the testing capability to be capable of running lab scope tests on the various components. [Sadly, the <em>Vantage Ultra <\/em>&amp; accessories were discontinued in 2022 by <em>Snap-On<\/em>].<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The <em>Vantage Ultra<\/em> has the capability of testing virtually <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span> automotive electrical component and features a\u00a0high-speed\u00a02-channel lab scope and graphing meters. The upper photo captures four\u00a0cylinders showing 4 to 5 sparks per cylinder for approximately 6ms, compared to the 2ms firing line shown above in Pam&#8217;s truck with the GM electronic ignition. The second photo below shows the MSD magnetic pickup pattern.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>With the <em>Snap-On Shop Stream<\/em> software you can see all eight cylinders in a streaming video on your Below is a MAF frequency pattern off my Buick 3.3L V-6 at approximately 1500 RPM, which is good. When testing a MAF sensor, tap on it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>LIGHTLY<\/em><\/span> while viewing the pattern which will commonly show a defective sensor by indicating a major dropout and a miss in the engine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/MAF.bmp\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5749\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5749\" src=\"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/MAF.bmp\" alt=\"MAF\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Bad Coil Wire on the Chevelle &#8211; August 2019<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When you see this pattern which jumps up and down on random cylinders, look for a bad coil wire! To be more specific if you see this type of pattern that is jumping up and down and is random &#8211; not linked to a particular cylinder &#8211; it is usually the coil wire or destroyed brush in the distributor cap. It is not a high-end scan tool but will do the job:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/MicroscanIII.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-9695\" src=\"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/MicroscanIII-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/MicroscanIII-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/MicroscanIII.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here&#8217;s another handy battery tester in our toolbox, the <a href=\"https:\/\/shop.snapon.com\/product\/Battery-System-Testers\/Enhanced-Battery-System-Tester\/EECS350\">EECS350<\/a> made by <em>Snap-On<\/em>. It not only tests all types of 6 &amp; 12-volt batteries, including motorcycle batteries, but will check your charging system under low load and high load conditions.
