{"id":1108,"date":"2011-08-20T10:00:23","date_gmt":"2011-08-20T17:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/?p=1108"},"modified":"2014-05-05T08:18:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T15:18:38","slug":"funny-car-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/northwestvets.com\/blog2\/2011\/08\/20\/funny-car-summer\/","title":{"rendered":"Funny Car Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I know my sons are far too young to recall this movie which I found\u00a0clips of on <em>YouTube<\/em>, but being the old duffer I am, I often think of the early days of drag racing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Below are the\u00a0clips from <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Funny Car Summer <\/em><\/span>which hit the movie theaters in\u00a01974, featuring fireman <em>Big Jim Dunn<\/em> and the development of his rear-engine &#8216;Cuda Funny Car.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Obviously this was before reverser&#8217;s were required and\u00a0it was common practice to splash <em>VHT <\/em>in front of the rear tires prior to your burnout. And please note much of the movie is at\u00a0a Division 7 race when the Fuelers and Pro Stocks\u00a0competed at the divisional races.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I can remember like it was yesterday when Kath and I went to see the movie and I hope you enjoy this piece of nostalgia as much as\u00a0I do.\u00a0This is the time when racers ran because they loved the sport, before big corporate sponsors and hired guns, and Dunn towing his Funny Car behind his Ford pickup to the next race.
