Open Letter to Sen. Murray on Health Care

http://northwestvets.com/open_letter_to_senator_murray.htm

 Roger Young

[Address/Phone]

22 December 2009

VIA FACSIMILE

Subject:  Open Letter to Sen. Murray on Health Care

Sen. Murray,

I am aware you will be one of sixty Senators voting for the passage of the Senate Health Care bill.  You have made your position perfectly clear to all of us here in Washington State that you personally support the bill.  I recognize the need for health care reform to lower costs, but that is not what I’m seeing in this legislation.

First, this bill according to all national polls is opposed by the majority of Americans as we understand it today. Second, this bill reportedly contains numerous brokered, sweetheart deals for states such as Nebraska, Florida and Louisiana which in my opinion is nothing less than a bribe, extortion, and the most blatant form of corruption I’ve seen in our Senate in my lifetime and is most likely unconstitutional.

What is the rush to pass a bill by Christmas that will not go into effect until at least 2013 if the upcoming conference version is passed by both houses? I’ll answer for you – pure politics so that President Obama can go before the American people in his upcoming State of the Union address and say he and his party gave us health care reform, period. That claim alone is apparently more important than bringing us rational health care reform.

The American people are not stupid.  They are starting to see the corruption and costs behind this bill and I’m certain additional alarming details will be revealed in time.  An administration that has promised to be transparent has been anything but.

The people will be heard in 2010.

Merry Christmas,

Roger Young – Vietnam veteran

Bob Woodward book details Obama battles with advisers over exit plan for Afghan warWashington Post – 22 Sep 10

Why Is He Sending Them?” by Charles Krauthammer – 1 Oct 10

Newsletter comment: I read the book myself this past weekend. Mullen, Gates, Petraeus, McChrystal & Hillary Clinton pushed for a 40,000 troop surge for a counterinsurgency that would take from 12-15 years.

Obama scaled that plan back to 30,000 with the only real hope of “degrading the Taliban” with reviews scheduled for this December and next July – “exit ramps.” I have no doubt he intends to scale back our forces next July despite what Petraeus and Gates have been saying that these are simply scheduled reviews. Therefore, why the “surge”?

To be very honest Woodward’s book is depressing and when the facts get out to our troops it will be completely demoralizing. All concerned should not only read the Woodward book, but also “Dereliction of Duty” by H.R. McMaster for a direct comparison of what happened in Vietnam. History is sadly repeating itself. – Roger Young

White House Dismisses Healthcare Concerns

Updated 29 Oct 09

Angry Protesters Confront Democratic Lawmakers at Health Care Town Halls FoxNews – 5 Aug 09

Newsletter comment: This is not a subject we usually address, but I feel the White House is missing the boat if they attack the American people regarding their concerns and anxiety regarding the proposed healthcare bills. Certainly we deserve to see the finalized bills before they are voted upon by the House and Senate, and allow a period of time for the American people to voice their opinions to their elected representatives.

Certainly we need healthcare reform, but I’m very concerned that another mega bill will be jammed down our throats without careful consideration by the House and Senate and with little time for We the people to consider the ramifications of these bills and how they will impact our present insurance coverage.

‘Un-American’ attacks can’t derail health care debate By Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer – USAToday – 10 Aug 09

Newsletter comment:  Speaker Pelosi continues her attacks on Americans who are opposed to the proposed plans, despite the fact nobody really knows what will be in the final bill(s).
I believe that open and civil debate is good, and that we should be respectful of all who have questions/positions at these public meetings.  I believe Speaker Pelosi’s ongoing comments will only incite more civil unrest. Hardly worthy comments from the Speaker of the House! – Roger Young – co-editor

Pres. Obama AWOL

EDITORIAL: The jihad at homeThe Washington Times – 3 Jun 09

“It’s a sad day in America when the shooting of an abortion doctor stops the presses but no one notices two soldiers gunned down by an Islamist…”

Newsletter comment: We are disgusted that the White House and President Obama have NOT put out a press release condemning this attack on our recruiters. Perhaps the timing was not right for issuing such a statement prior to his trip to Saudi Arabia & Egypt? If that is the case, I guess world politics are more important than those who serve in our military…

Comment: This is ALL about politics!  Speaker Pelosi has been on a mission to embarrass and prosecute former Bush administration officials and has since been caught up in the entire mess!

She first denied she had any knowledge of waterboarding which has changed since to she felt she could not change the Bush policy without a new President & Congress!  Be careful what you wish for Madam Speaker, you could become collateral damage!

Ted Sampley passes away at 62ENCToday.com – 12 May 09

Newsletter comment: Ted was a very, very interesting Brother. I can recall many late-night phone calls we had discussing the POW issue years back. At times I found myself opposed to his tactics, but there was never any doubt the passion he had for the truth and the fire in his belly. We worked together via the fax net to post a lot of his information on the Veterans’ Board of Prodigy prior to web sites before Ted became completely computer savvy. He watched the board & comments and I did the posting for him which was a laborious task in those days.

At times his articles made me cringe knowing the backlash that was coming, but there was truly a softer side to Ted which few saw. It was that softer side that drove him so hard. And he was very supportive of me and my family when Kathie died checking up on me and the kids often.

I will truly miss him… Rest In Peace my Brother…

Roger “Bear” Young – A Troop, 3/17th Air Cav

Ted ~ a man of honor and integrity, a Brother we cherished and held in high esteem. We will miss you immensely, and our hearts will hold your memory forever. Rest in peace our dear Brother.

President Makes Correct Decision

NBC: Obama will seek to delay photo releaseMSNBC – 13 May 09

Newsletter comment: We agree with our President’s decision. Releasing these additional photos serves no real purpose at this time while our troops are engaged in combat zones. Many responsible have been charged and are now serving time for their actions by our U.S. military.

Poor Planning for Afghanistan ‘Surge’

Gates Wraps Up Afghanistan Visit With New InsightsDefenseLink – 8 May 09

“…As he returns to Washington, Gates said, he has some new issues to look into to ensure equipment hits the ground at the same time as the newly arriving troops who rely on it.

“Gates said he was ‘struck by the comments made by some of the captains and first sergeants at lunch about the lag between some of the equipment and the troops that are coming in.’

” ‘So that is something that I need to pursue when I get back, to see if there is some way we can make some adjustments and correct that,’ he said…”

Newsletter comment: Nothing like being deployed to a war zone without your equipment! Nice planning for this ‘surge’!
