June 21st & 22nd 2014 at Pacific Raceways

On June 21st and 22nd, both Chris and Paul were racing at Pacific Raceways in this two-day, two-race event.

On Saturday, Chris went out in the 1st round of Pro Bracket with a -.004 reaction time, so he ran the car through and recorded a 10.573 on a 10.58 dial.

On Sunday, Chris advanced to the 3rd round before the Chevelle unexpectantly slowed to a 10.608 on a 10.54 dial. I suspect a valve spring problem but with 189 runs on the engine we’ll likely park the car and completely tear down the motor before running it again in 2015 if the valves springs are ok. We tested the PacAloy springs prior to this racing season but with 133 hits on these springs anything can happen!

UPDATE June 24th 2014: We randomly tested several valve springs this afternoon and they’ve dumped 20# from the start of the season, confirming that it’s time to replace them.

Paul did well on Sunday with Torri’s ’66 Pontiac Tempest in Sportsman making it to the semi-finals before losing a tight race to Gordon Rust who went on to win this race!  Paul broke out by .006-seconds as the Pontiac was running well this weekend. With this race Paul moved up in the Sportsman points to 7th place at Pacific Raceways. Jason Biscay still leads the Sportsman field as the points chase is well underway.

Next up, Torri will be behind the wheel of her Tempest and we’ll get the ’57 out for some testing leading up to the 2nd Annual Wild West Nostalgia Race at Pacific Raceways! Torri has challenged me to a match race during testing! – Roger
