About Roger

Driver of our '57 Chev from 1972-2019, Vietnam veteran (A Troop, 3/17th Air Cavalry Scout helicopter Line Chief and later Cobra Periodic Inspection team leader), retired ASE rated automotive mechanic. Roger became involved in drag racing during his high school days and after his stint in the Army ran E & F/MP [Modified Production] here in Division 6 before switching to bracket racing when the '57 became obsolete for class racing. He often raced at Puyallup, Kent-Pacific Raceways, Bremerton, Portland & the original Mission, B.C. track.

    An excellent video by Diamond P that even featured some Sportsman racing. Too bad the video ended in the semi-finals of Funny Car.

    Some differences I wanted to point out to our young viewers:

    1) There were no reader boards back then, you had to listen to the track announcer for the et’s and mph. We were lucky to have a win light on the top end of the track.

    2) Dry hops prior to the starting line were common back then.

    3) Notice the long MPH speed trap which extended past the finish line. Those that kept their cars under power to the last MPH light were said to have “driven out the back door.” Today, the last MPH clock is at the finish line.
