July 11th & 12th at Pacific Raceways

Chris had his Chevelle running in Pro Bracket this weekend and Paul was running his ’85 Mustang in Sportsman. Not the best weekend for Edwards & Young Racing as both cars were eliminated by the 2nd round on both days.

In the 2nd round on Sunday, Chris broke a Comp Cams intake roller rocker below the trunion area, a first we’ve ever seen, and fortunately we were able to find all the pieces in the head. Obviously a rocker upgrade is in the works.

Paul’s Mustang is working better with the tubes in the slicks as his 60′ times improved this weekend and is getting more tire growth in high gear lowering his trap RPMs which is a good thing.

After this weekend, Paul has slipped to 4th in the Sportsman points and Nick Douglas is starting to run away from the pack. – Roger

Driver of our '57 Chev from 1972-2019, Vietnam veteran (A Troop, 3/17th Air Cavalry Scout helicopter Line Chief and later Cobra Periodic Inspection team leader), retired ASE rated automotive mechanic. Roger became involved in drag racing during his high school days and after his stint in the Army ran E & F/MP [Modified Production] here in Division 6 before switching to bracket racing when the '57 became obsolete for class racing.     Glad you were able to find all the pieces and not have to tear things down.
    Also glad it didn’t do any more damage to the motor.

    Dan raced two Asphalt Wars races this weekend in Thompson, Ohio.
    Qualified second on Saturday and lost in the Semi Finals on a Holeshot.
    Qualified 4th on Sunday trying to change a couple things on the car to get it running
    In the 4.0s on that track. Stuck it really hard off the start in the first round and lost…
    Rain rolled in before they even ran the next round…so they split the money…
    Losing first round cost him $600, so maybe he should have just not changed up stuff…but that’s racing!

    Hutters were there and run that track all the time. They are from Cleveland area IIRC.
    Ran consistent 4.09 with a 434 motor. They are engine builders and build a lot of qualifying motors for NASCAR too I guess. They made some nice passes for sure, while a lot of cars were having a hard, hard time getting down the track.

    First time I ever saw a pair of cars in the T/D semi finals come up and one car stalled after his burnout. The other car didn’t fire and was not out of the water box, so they let the stalled car push back and try to refire. Neither car would fire so they put them on a 60 second clock to fire. Neither could so they both were disqualified and the winner of the first semi was the winner. But he has to take the light and break the beams to win the final round per the rules I guess. He asked if he just rolled down the track if they would let his son run his Jr Dragster with him in the other lane. The track said fine as long as he took it easy. So they line up and he had a problem and took over 10 seconds to reach the finish line. Even his sons Jr Dragster could have beat him as could either of the other cars that couldn’t fire in the semi finals. Craziest thing I have seen at the track I think.

    Also, Saturday they had the fastest bump ever for Asphalt Wars race in T/S at 4.19 IIRC.
    Fast for what I consider a local or at best smaller regional race. Think they had 16 cars try for the 8 car field and the spread of the qualifiers was about .106 sec…

    Chris’ new Crower intake rockers showed up this afternoon and we checked the geometry which is fine. The old Comp Cams intake rockers were 1.52, the new Crower’s are 1.55 ratio giving us a bit more lift.

    Chris spoke with Comp Cams last week regarding the failure and was told that with our spring pressures their rockers had seen their useful life span after 200+ runs. We’ll upgrade the exhaust rockers this winter as they only have 18 passes on them since installation when the motor was apart this winter.

    On Tuesday, July 21, Chris and I got the new Crower 1.55 ratio rockers on the intakes. The Comp Cams 1.6 ratio exhaust rockers only have 19 runs as we replaced them during the engine rebuild over this past winter.

    Now that the 2015 racing season is over, Chris and I modified the metered lifters to provide more oil to the pushrods, rockers & valve springs. This should help increase the life of the upper end components!
