2nd Amendment in Danger

In our last post, Supporting our “transformed” Military, we addressed the issue that our military Chaplains are now being told to get with the gay marriage program or get out. Their first amendment rights are apparently meaningless and to my knowledge they have no support from the SECDEF, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, the Joint Chiefs themselves or any member of Congress.

Now we find our 2nd amendment is under heavy fire; VP Joe Biden today suggested that the President can reform gun control without approval of Congress by the use of Executive Orders.

There is a very disturbing trend here. All of us that served in the military took an oath “to support and defend our Constitution.” The same is true with our elected officials. Yet under this current administration our Constitution appears to be a meaningless document that they abhore and refuse to abide by.

The tragic event at Sandy Hook elementary certainly mandates a serious and rational discussion on how we can better protect our children and grandchildren as a society. But we can not ignore the Constitutional rights of the American people or mandate the repeal of the 2nd amendment without the approval of Congress and the majority of the states as thoughtfully outlined in our founding document:

Article V:

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

After surviving John Hinckley’s assassination attempt in 1981, Ronald Reagan said:

“You won’t get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. There’s only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up and if you don’t actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time … It’s a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun controllers. I happen to know this from personal experience.”

  1. Gary L Swartz says:

So, what is the big deal???
He declared himself a ‘natural born Citizen’ and nobody cared.
He had 105% of the eligible voters in Cincinnati voting in 2008 and nobody cared.
He golfs more than Tiger and nobody cares.
He takes more vacations than there are days he works (Loosely speaking)
And don’t get me started on Mrs. BO.
If he wants my guns, I’ll give them to him. Bullets first, pointy end out. And as many of them as I can before they kill me. And THAT is the only way he’ll get them. (And I HOPE that he is the one, or Biden, or both that come to get them.)

  2. Chuck Lawrence says:

Barry was reelected to be President NOT KING!
Unfortunately we do have a president that has set all time records in issuing Executive Orders many of which have circumvented the law of the land or constitution. Our congress has done nothing in response.
If he should try to circumvent the Congress or Constitution I foresee a lot of problems.
Tons of Court Challenges to start with, Unfortunately I have little faith in the Supreme Court anymore, and that is where such cases will end up. I also foresee a lot of Americans standing up in defiance and refusing to comply. That thought is rather scary.
However there are many law enforcement professionals who say they will refuse to enforce any law that goes to far. Of course what defines to far?
Of course any extreme decisions / laws will lead to the making of criminals out of law abiding citizens.
The Congress best grow some balls and stand up to such action by the president.
This is an emotional and volatile issue on both sides. What disgusts me the most, is the way the massacre of those innocent children in Sand Hook is being used to push the anti-gun agenda. The Anti-gun folks are not concerned one iota about those poor babies. They are just using those children to promote their agenda and many are to blind to see that. Including the White House..
The extreme levels of gun control being suggested is beyond common sense and We the People do not have a voice in an important Constitutional issue. This is treading on very thin ice and could easily become explosive.
All the laws in the world will not stop the criminal element or those with mental disorders. As a matter of fact the existing laws are rarely enforced as it is. Those bent on maximum destruction will try and some will succeed. There is no perfect solution and its about time that reality sets in. Again criminals don’t care about the law.
The only people impacted by any new laws are honest gun owning law abiding citizens. Look at Chicago which averages 1.3 shootings a day. Clearly it has the most overly strict gun laws in the country. Have those laws done anything to stop them shootings? No the laws have no impact what so ever. Those criminals, and drug gangs could care less about the strict laws in Chicago.
There is a lot of misinformation and propaganda being used by the extreme far left anti-gun people out there.
This is when common sense and respectable dialog is needed. We will not get that. Biden has already alluded that to be a fact with his latest comments.
Of great concern to everyone ought to be their privacy rights being violated to enforce more stupid gun laws.
But more important is the president and congress ought to be using this time to get the budget and deficit under control. The Fiscal situation in this country is the real problem. But any excuse not to deal with it will do.

  3. Roger Young says:

Our civilian “leadership” better tread softly. As pointed out this is a very emotional issue that must be addressed thoughtfully and in accordance to our Constitution.

If the President decides to eliminate sections of our Constitution by Executive Orders, he is in violation of our Constitution and articles of impeachment should be immediately forthcoming from the House.

These are strong measures but could be necessary in the very near future!

  4. Roger Young says:

Social media certainly has its place, but simply posting gun control slogans and banners on our FB page is not going to get the job done!

Contact your elected representatives and let them know how you feel on this and other important issues facing our country! Again the White House fax is: 202-456-2461

  5. Jennifer Doucette says:

This President continues to follow very disturbing and concerning trends. I have already sent letters to my so called “representation” in both the senate and congress and I won’t stop there. However, is all this to no real matter if Obeyme just issues Executive Order’s at his own doing? This gun reform crap brings up a very serious question facing the military…will they support the President in taking guns away from the people? That situation is going to get real nasty real fast.

    • Roger Young says:

Indeed it could get ugly. I sent a message to Speaker Boehner also today, recommending that if the 2nd Amendment is altered by Executive Orders, he best start working on articles of impeachment.

Of course I haven’t seen much courage from the GOP either. So Americans must take a stand to preserve our Constitution.

  6. Roger Young says:

    Beyond the Pale:

It is being reported that President Obama will use children as a backdrop tomorrow to roll out his edicts on gun control.

This man simply knows no bounds…

  7. Chuck Lawrence says:

TWO POINTS I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE:
    1) I / we are to subject ourselves to new rules and controls by an administration responsible for a gun running fiasco called Fast and Furious that intentionally put guns, including assault weapons, in the hands of criminals and drug cartels?? They did so with no means of tracking or any other controls. Guns that killed a US Border Agent and hundreds of untold other innocents including a beauty queen. Who in the heck do they think they are kidding? I guess we were supposed to have forgotten about that. This administration better clean its own house before it comes to our’s

    2) I also resent a President using children as a back drop for his agenda and promoting the “RIGHT TO LIFE”. YET he is the strongest supporter for Abortion ever to sit in the White House.

By the way most gun crimes are committed with hand guns NOT Assault weapons.
High capacity mags is a red herring. Practice can help a person quick change a 7 rd mag as fast as they can a 10 or 18 rd mag. Its a joke!

Now I don’t know about you, but the hypocrisy here is mind boggling. It is nothing more than an attempt to step on our Liberties and Rights. Close scrutiny needs to be made of the orders he is signing. Some of them are scary and violate Dr. Patient confidentially

I will not go into the privacy aspect or response if my doctor questions me about firearm ownership.

And all this is expected to cost the American taxpayers an additional $500,000,000.oo. Yes five hundred Million Dollars that we do not have!

Tragic as things are, this is a real world and crime and murder will happen. It has since Cain killed Abel, Men and women have killed each other. Try as we may to mitigate we cannot eliminate that from happening. It will happen one way or another. The delusion of creating some kind of utopia or perfect world the liberals want is fantasy. Bad things happen and sometimes can not be prevented no matter how hard we try.

I am just sick of these elitist arrogant jerks in DC acting on things they know nothing about to attempt to make themselves look good. This is politics at its worst.

    • Roger Young says:

Chuck, very well said. And as we were trained in the service, it was mandatory to be able to change magazines in less than 3-seconds.

The American people must understand, this is just the start of additional gun control laws. Just yesterday New York state signed into law very strict gun control laws.

We all want to protect our children and grandchildren. But I do not see anything said in the White House broadcast above or in his proposed legislation that will prevent the next terrible tragedy on our young children. I believe the only short-term answer is armed guards at our schools.
