At first look, Susan Wade’s August 15th commentary regarding “PACIFIC RACWAYS’ DECADE OF UNKEPT PROMISES WEARING THIN“ appears to be yet another slam against PR.
But she raises some excellent points. Resurfacing/relocating the race track has been tied to the master plan with the likely outcome that the plan will never be approved considering the rather hostile local environment towards all motorsports racing. Susan calls it a red herring, I have long called it a pipe dream!
I can only speak from personal experience. That being that on one given weekend our ’57 can run 10.60’s to be followed by the next outing where we can only muster 10.80’s due to substandard track prep even in like track temperatures where we are forced to make drastic chassis adjustments to get the car to launch.
Even with our ’71 Chevelle we leave at less than optimum launch rpm’s at Pacific in anticipation of mediocre track conditions, sacrificing E.T. for consistency. And this is with 10-second cars!
I hope Jason is aware of the article by Susan Wade and the interview with Gary Scelzi regarding Pacific Raceways.
It is clear that the professional racers are losing patience with PR and that the track needs to be upgraded or there is an increased possibility that our local track will be dropped from the NHRA national tour.
PR with a state of the art track surface could once again hold many national records and the times out here were certainly respectable once the track was scrubbed and prepped.
