What would you do if you had $10K to spend on your race car?

I thought this would be a good subject to broach as we all know money is not always at your disposal to do things that you wish to do to your racecar.  So, the question is, what would you do if you had $10K to spend on your race car?

I will chime in on this one in regards to Dad & Chris. This is what I would do if I had the money for each of the cars.

Dad ’57 Chev – Clutchless tranny, Wilwood Brakes All Around, Step Headers & and a few other minor things

Chris ’71 Chevelle Wagon – Narrow rearend w/9′ Ford, Step Headers, Take more weight out of car but w/o cutting it up

A clutchless transmission would definately pick up our ‘57 but there’s a catch. When you lift such as in bracket racing near the stripe, a clutchless transmission will kick into neutral.

But it would be still be nice to have one! Problem is, the first run my bet is this old man would still be tempted to use the clutch on the shifts!

      • Terry Kelly says:

Roger…You can almost bet on thew fact that your left leg will hit the clutch pedal each shift. When I drove a lenco, (in our younger years, so our brains were a hell of a lot more alert back then) on the first TWO passes, my damn leg hit the clutch at least on the 1-2 shift. Nothing has changed I’m still a knucklehead. 🙂 Ter

Terry, you are correct. We’re like old dogs trying to retrain our habits. Not so easy for me as we advance into “the golden years” 😉

  2. Dale says:

I would pull the NM motor out of the SS and ask Young Racing to build me another motor! Then I’d go racing…

    • Roger says:

      Dale,

You have a great engine in your SS. With that 10K Paul is talking about, put in a good TH-400, converter and gear up the rear and you’d be set!!!

      Thanks for joining us here!

  3. Paul Young says:

I would guess that the Dale’s Chevelle w/TH-400 and higher rearend gearing would go easy low 12’s, if not high 11’s.

  4. CHRIS YOUNG says:

IF I HAD TEN GRAND TO SPEND ON THE CHEVELLE I WOULD PUT A FORD NINE-INCH, BIGGER TIRES, LARGER HEADERS AND A SHEETMETAL INTAKE! THEN I WOULD THROW THE LAUNCH CHIP OUT, PUT ON MY DIAPER AND SEE WHAT THAT THING WOULD DO ON KILL WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THE MASTER TUNER HIMSELF. BFG! THE 57 WOULD GET BRAKES AND ONE OF MY FINEST PAINT JOBS!!!!!!!!!

  5. CHRIS YOUNG says:

IF I HAD TEN LARGE TO PUT INTO THE PONTIAC I WOULD BUY THE BIGGEST BADDEST BUTLER ENGINES PUMPGAS MOTOR YOU COULD GET. (AROUND 467 INCHES AND ABOUT 600FT LBS OF TORQUE ) THEN INSTALL A ROLL BAR AND WATCH PAUL AND TORRI LEAVE MARKS IN THERE SHORTS!!!!!!! I WOULD LEAVE THE CAR WITH THE SAME APPEARANCE SO NO ONE WOULD SUSPECT WHATS LAYING BETWEEN THE FRAME RAILS.NOW THAT WOULD MAKE FOR SOME GOOD VIDEO!
