My thanks to Chris & Paul for all their help this weekend. They pulled the 5-speed out of the ’57 for required maintenance, we tested the PacAloy 1.625″ valve springs (haven’t lost any pressure!) 295-305 lbs on the seats, took 120# out of the clutch (base pressure) and a few other items on our check list for the ’57. Go thru the gearbox and the ’57 will be set to go for 2017!

I’ll provide additional updates here when I get the 5-speed torn apart. – Roger

Update July 26, 2016:

I got the transmission tore down, needs one new 3-4 slider and will also replace the 1-2 slider while it’s apart, and I’ll be sending 3rd & 4th gears out to have the pro-shift rings replaced by Liberty.

1st gear cluster gear (one that had a chip) is showing some hairline fractures so I’ve ordered a new 17-tooth cryo gear from Liberty to replace it before it fails. The mating 38-tooth 1st gear seldom fractures unless you run a broken cluster gear through it. – Roger

Update August 3, 2016:

I’ve installed the new Liberty 17-tooth cryo cluster gear for 1st and I’ve cleaned up the shift ring on 2nd and installed the new 1-2 slider.

Today Pam got 3rd & 4th gears shipped to Liberty to have the shift rings replaced. In a few weeks I’ll have everything to put the gearbox back together! – Roger

Update September 3, 2016:

I got 3rd & 4th gears back from Liberty, new welded pro-shift rings, new bushings and new 3-4 slider. – Roger
