On September 8-9th we took the Wagon over to Bremerton Raceways for the NHRA TV Challenge and a big 3k bracket race.

Saturday was a day of challenge because I was on the wrong side of .00x all day long. By this I mean .009 red first round then bought back in and won the buy-back round then was .004 under in round 2 of Pro.

Sunday was very good though we made it down to 7 cars left in Pro that would have gave us the bye into the final if we won. We Raced Dave Barcelone  in his beautiful Nova and lost on a double break-out.  We also went 3 rounds in Super Pro on Sunday.

It was a very fun race and as always we had a good time. I want to thank Joe Loch for towing Rett out and giving us a place to sleep and cook with his coach. It’s very much appreciated.  I would also like to thank my family and Handan Trailer Repair for supporting me also!

Aug 8-11, we took the Wagon out to Pacific Raceways for the Divisional Race. The weather was hot Friday and Saturday with temps in the 90’s.

Race #1 we did very well after our win the previous race with my lights very good and the car was running very consistent with 10.3x both days. We ended up in the semi with a breakout of .004 on the brakes at the finish line.  Needless to say, we were pleased.  On to race 2.

The weather cooled Saturday, and we were ready for eliminations on Sunday.  We woke up to very cool fast weather and went into round #1. Well, that’s where it ended with me going red along with my opponent, but I went red worse ending our day. All and all I’m pleased with how things have gone the last few races. Paul has been on the dials and the car has been absolutely flawless!

Winner’s Circle, Pro Bracket, July 27th 2024, Carl Thorsett photo!

On the evening of July 27th we took the wagon out for the A-Street Automotive Gold Cup series and managed to put her in the winner’s circle of Pro Bracket. We qualified #1 and it just rolled on from there.

Paul was on the dial all night long and we were cutting the tree down with a series of .00x lights in eliminations. With the win we finally got back to where we feel we need to be. With 6 rounds of competition, it was a very competitive evening, and the final was no difference with a win margin of .0063 and a double break-out against Steve Ryland and his cool Mopar.

We feel very good going into the divisional the next race with a chance at Two Wally’s! On this evening we decided to take the wagon out to Pacific Raceways after testing Joe’s  Comp car in the morning at a private test.

First qualifying pass we were .011 on the tree and 10.30 with a density altitude of 2600 ft. Second qualifying pass we were .006 on the tree and 10.32 with higher density altitude and track temp.

Going into first round I deliberately slowed my reaction time down and dialed 10.32 going .042 on the tree lifting for the win. Round 2 we drew Justin Jung in his hard-charging  Camaro.  With the air cooling and sun going down we dialed a 10.29, unfortunately I turned the red light on with a -.001 running a 10.264 at 128.82 for the loss. The car is working well and is very consistent.  All- in-all it was a decent day and as always we appreciate the support from our sponsors, family and friends.

On Saturday June 8th we took both Torri’s Pontiac and the wagon out for the night race.  The changes we made to the wagon in Yakima translated well and the car was both consistent and predictable with the weather. I however was not…We ran a 10.31 at 2500 feet corrected altitude and ended in the second round with a 10.283 on a 10.29 dial at 1500 feet corrected altitude where I went red ending our day.

Torri brought out old reliable, her ’66 Pontiac Tempest after a year and a half hiatus and did very well going to the second round. Round one she cut an outstanding .002 light and won and round two she was .065 and ran 11.139 on a 11.13 dial coming up just a bit short. She did very well and had a great time.

May 19th Pacific Raceways:

We had a day race Sunday. With the rain the night before the crew had to work very hard to get the track dry and ready to race. First and only qualifier we set a new personal best of a 10.136@129.33 and a stellar 1.329 60′. Going into round 1 with the air being relatively the same I dialed 10.14. The car hit the wheelie bars hard and came down hard causing fuel slosh. As a result we ran a 10.21 and went home. I was not happy with the results and decided before the next time out I had to get the car calmed down. So I ordered a adjustable launch controller and got ready for the trip to Renagade Raceways in Yakima on the short week for their big 2- day race.

May 24th – 26th Renegade:

Friday morning the 24th we headed over with fellow racers and friends Andy Collins, Dave Wakefield, Tim Sipe and Jace O’Hara. We got settled in and entered the Gambler race. First time hit we spun badly as expected and went a 1.447 60′ and a 6.55 in the 1/8 mile. Q2 we loosened the front shocks about 20 clicks and lowered the launch. Improving to a 1.41 60′ and 6.47 1/8th mile we knew we were heading in the right direction. So for round 1, I raised the wheelie bars and lowered the launch some more to 3200 rpm’s. The car responded with a 1.37 60′ and we got the win light.

Round 2 we drew the always tuff Thumper Camaro. I was .038 on the tree to his .007 and was done for the night. Saturday the 25th we started at noon for our second day of competition. With some slight chassis adjustments things were going well. Round 1, I drilled the tree with a .003 light and was able to lift and run a 10.254 for the win. On to round 2. Three-hours later and at 10.30 PM I went red and lost.

Sunday the 26th we felt good going in and my trusted crew chief Paul Young showed up for support. The car was working fantastic with consistent times and 60’s. We won rounds 1 and 2 and drew the very tough racer Russell Lopeman. He absolutely drilled me with a .019 pack and went on to runner up. We were done for the weekend.

All in all we feel good about our results never having raced Yakima before not losing 1st round the entire weekend and making improvements with the new, rear-shock package. I had a great time racing with everyone and as always want to thank my Family and friends for the support! Until next time!

May 11th we took the Wagon out for the first time in 2024. Off the trailer with the new Afco double-adjustable rear shocks things went well. We ran a 10.34@127.69 on a 120 degree track at 2000+ feet of density altitude. After multiple consistent qualifying passes we felt good going into the first round of eliminations.

We dialed 10.34 and with a decent. 019 light I was able to lift and take the win running a 10.383. Going over the numbers after the run Paul’s dial was solid at a 10.347 prediction. On to round 2 and we felt good going in.

Night air was coming in so we stepped up the dial to a 10.31 against always tuff Aaron Williams. We did our burnout and the car ahead of me broke so we got shut off for the third time this day. To say I got refocused and did my job would be a lie. After turning the red light on I lifted to a 10.49 @112.

Today Chris came over and pulled our Mark Williams left axle to check for spline twist and he also installed new A-Arm bump stops in the front end. The axle is in good shape after some BIG wheelstands the last time we had it out. Thanks for all the help son! And thanks to Pam for keeping us in coffee and the outstanding cinnamon rolls!

We’re looking to get the ’57 back out to the strip next year, during the 2025 season, with Chris again behind the wheel at a few select races. – Roger Young

Very few updates on Chris’ Chevelle this winter, he decided to replace the single-adjustable rear coil-over shocks with Afco double-adjustable shocks. He reset the ride height to prior settings and re-checked the pinion angle.

He reinstalled the Jesel rockers, checked valve spring pressures and fired up the motor for 2024. The Wagon is ready to go!! – Roger
