Bremerton Raceway September 13, 2015

winner

Great racing today at Bremerton Raceways as I made it to semis in Sportsman and won the Car Club Challenge. Big thanks to Ron West & the kids, Craig Smith, my wife Melodie Young & my lil boy Isaak for all of the fun we had & the help keeping things going between each round. Huge thanks as always to my Dad – Roger Young, bro Chris Young for the tuning, help with maintenance, guidance, etc. as couldn’t race the car without your great support. Thanks to my mom Pam Young & sister in law Torri Young as always cheering me on both at the track & from home.

Considering Retirement

Anthony Hutchinson photo - 1st Round

Anthony Hutchinson Photo

I’m doing some heavy contemplation about the upcoming 2016 racing season. Pam and I have spent a lot of money the past two years upgrading the old ’57. Considering the ever shorter racing schedule and the amount of runs I get per season, I have to seriously question if it is worth the hard work and expense anymore. Chris has always been there for me and works his tail off, but trying to work the ’57 into the racing schedule with all the cars on our team and helping other teams, it is getting hard to justify the expense from my perspective.

To add to all of this, on August 15th the racers were told the August 29th race was being cancelled due to a “quiet day” being mandated by the county. Only to learn today the actual quiet day is Sunday, August 30th, and the schedule was shuffled to allow a motorcycle race on Saturday in place of the scheduled drag race. At best we were told a 1/2-truth. – Roger

August 21-23rd Lucas Divisional at Pacific Raceways

Chris had his ’71 Chevelle out to this Division 6 Lucas Race at Pacific Raceways and made it to the 2nd round on Sunday.

The car ran well this weekend with no problems. In the first round Chris cut a .028 on the tree and ran 10.559 on a 10.60 dial to take the double breakout win lifting.

In the second round he lost a close one to a hard-charging Super Stock cutting a .032 light to his opponent’s .028. His opponent ran an outstanding 9.153 on a 9.15 to Chris’ 10.570 on a 10.56 dial with a slight lift at the stripe. This was a close one folks! And my thanks to Paul for giving Chris a hand during this long weekend! Chris also put the Chevelle on the scales during the weekend and it now weighs 3715 lbs with driver. Not exactly light!

This marks the end of the major races at Pacific Raceways this 2015 season.  Remember, the August 29th race has been cancelled. Each year the season gets shorter. – Roger

Post-race Report, August 15th 2015

Hi Guys,

We had a decent day out at Pacific Raceways as I made it to the 2nd round and Torri made it to the 3rd round in Sportsman.  The highlight  of the day for each of us is that I got my 2nd perfect light of the year and Torri did a great job of driving both on the tree & with performance as her ’66 Tempest ran an outstanding 12.09 on the last pass.

This was the last points race of the 2015 season and I finished 3rd overall which I am pretty happy with since it was basically a round out of 2nd and it was the 1st full year with the new car.

Thanks again to everyone in the family for the help and support as I couldn’t have done any of this without you all.

Nick Douglas – 568 points

P.S.: Chris will be racing his ’71 Chevelle at the Division 6 race this coming weekend at Pacific Raceways in Pro Bracket – Roger

Tuning Change for our ’57

We’re going to put a slightly different tune-up in the ’57 for the August 15th race and see if we can pick it up a bit to the 1/8th. A good time to work on next year’s combination. [Due to thunderstorms and heavy rains on the 14th, we did not take the ’57 out to the track as scheduled].

When we put the 350 in the 57 we were worried about hooking it with the increased torque, and thanks to the crew at PR that has not been a problem. So we retarded the cam 2-degrees to soften the launch but the old 331 with the lower gears is quicker to the 330 foot mark. So, we’ll advance the cam 2-degrees and let it rip! If it works the car should fly!

Here’s the AVERAGE incrementals with the new 350 this season:

60 foot: 1.449

330: 4.309
660: 6.717 @ 101.347 MPH
1000: 8.810
1/4: 10.583 @ 126.995 MPH

Best: 10.49 @ 128 MPH

Paul Captures 1st Half Bracketstars Points Series

B-STARS

Carl Thorsett of BracketStars puts on a 2-part points series for all of the Pacific Raceways drag racers which covers both the 1st & 2nd half of the points you earn for your respective classes.  I won the 1st half of the series and got an awesome trophy along with $140!  The buy-in is only $50 per half which is a great deal in my opinion.   Carl hosts a bunch of car shows along with sponsoring the Pacific Raceways winners circle.  He also provides trophies for the perfect light winners so a great program all around.  Thanks a bunch Carl!

July 11th & 12th at Pacific Raceways

Chris had his Chevelle running in Pro Bracket this weekend and Paul was running his ’85 Mustang in Sportsman. Not the best weekend for Edwards & Young Racing as both cars were eliminated by the 2nd round on both days.

In the 2nd round on Sunday, Chris broke a Comp Cams intake roller rocker below the trunion area, a first we’ve ever seen, and fortunately we were able to find all the pieces in the head. Obviously a rocker upgrade is in the works.

Paul’s Mustang is working better with the tubes in the slicks as his 60′ times improved this weekend and is getting more tire growth in high gear lowering his trap RPMs which is a good thing.

After this weekend, Paul has slipped to 4th in the Sportsman points and Nick Douglas is starting to run away from the pack. – Roger

We had three of the four Edwards & Young cars out this day racing for a Wally at Pacific Raceways.

Chris was racing in Pro Bracket with his Chevelle, and Torri and Paul racing their cars in Sportsman.

We are happy to report that the new Hughes Performance TH-400 in the Chevelle is working as promised as we’re seeing the car perform as it did a couple of years ago, recording a great 60-foot time of 1.390. And Chris had a perfect .000-second reaction time on his first hit of the day!

All three cars made it to the third round before being eliminated and Paul is now in 2nd place in the Sportsman points standings! Pam and I are very proud of them all ! Here’s video from the long day – Roger
