Remembering Lee Shepherd

From Texas, Lee Shepherd earned notoriety in the Modified Production ranks and later teamed with Reher-Morrison to dominate the Pro Stock ranks.  Many small-block Chev record-holding MP cars used Shepherd heads!  Shepherd became a legend in his own time…

Many of the heavy hitters here in Division 6 used Shepherd heads on their MP cars.

Lee inspired all of us by showing that if you did well in Modified Production, it was possible (back then) to make the transistion to Pro Stock. Lee was not only an outstanding mechanic & machinist but great driver. A rare combination these days.

2009 Pro Stock champion Mike Edwards also came from the MP ranks.

It was too bad the way he passed on as most believe it was very preventable.

Guys, I can’t stress enough the importance of keeping your belts fastened until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and you are at least off the racing surface.

I don’t unbuckle until I’m back at our pits. Things can also happen on the return road or anytime your engine is fired. Be safe!

Happy New Year to all and the best of health in 2010!
