My thanks to Chris, Justin, Pam & Paul for their help at the track. We had a few bugs to work out after the first pass when we blew the hides off the ’57 which Chris rectified for the 1st round.  On track video by Pam. – Roger

I believe we tickled the high-side chip at the very end of high gear as it went thru the finish line at 8500 with a 8600 RPM chip. We’ll raise it to 8800.

    Hello race fans,

It was an exciting day @ Pacific Raceways this past weekend as Dad was wheeling the good ‘ol 57 in Pro and I was racing the Ron & Mac West owned ’67 Mustang in Sportsman as this was the 1st official race of the season.
It was fun to see Dad bang all 5 gears going down the strip as I think we were all pretty impressed with his driving, hope he feels the same way. 🙂 We think it would’ve ran about a 10.80 on the 2nd pass if it hadn’t missed a little in high gear but all in all it was running strong.
It was sure a long day for me as I went on to win the race in my class which also happened to be the very 1st race for me driving for Ron. He had a front row view of this whole event as he happens to be working for Pacific Raceways this year and needless to say was more than happy as to how things went.
I had quite a few close races as a several were by less that .03 at the stripe but the closest was the final rd against Jerry Durant Jr whom won at the ET Finals last year. I had a .019 rt advantage and due to that he went too quick by a mere.003 seconds trying to catch me.
I made 3 passes in 15 minutes starting with the quarterfinals to the finals, needless to say the car got quite hot with the short turnaround time and in turn started slowing down a bit each pass which I accounted for by changing my dial-in each round.
It is an awesome feeling getting such a good start to the season, we hope to continue this when we debut the ’68 Mustang that Ron also owns as we have been busting our tails to get it done for the next race. I am looking forward to the debut of the car and challenge of driving an even faster car than ever before as we expect it to run in the 11’s and will be slowed down a bit to stay in Sportsman bracket.
I want to say thanks to everyone for coming out to the track to show support to us as always and a big thanks to Ron & Mac for letting me drive their cars this year as I hope we can bring home a Championship.

Well done son, we’re very proud of you!! It was a pleasure to meet Ron and Mac, good family!! You’re off to an excellent start!

      • Paul Young says:

Thanks Dad, it was a fun evening all around. I was glad everyone was able to meet Ron & Mac as they are good family indeed. We were also able to fulfill a wish for Mac’s Grandpa to see me & Mac make a pass against each other in qualifying, pretty cool.

        • Roger says:

That’s great you and Mac got to go head-to-head in qualifying. Wasn’t that his Grandpa’s car he was driving? Nice young man!

          • Roger says:

Chris and I are discussing taking the ’57 out on a Wednesday night so we can get some hits on it prior to the Nostalgia race in July.

It’s very difficult to sort out the chassis on a night of racing.

Today I installed a new covered RPM module holder so we’re not searching for them after every launch! 🙂 Chris and I will be installing the new MagnaFuel fuel pressure regulator in hopes of correcting the low fuel pressure near the stripe. It suddenly dropped from 6-1/2 psi to 4 psi (didn’t gradually fall off). I doubt it is a problem with the new MagnaFuel pump we installed last season which should have PLENTY of volume for this car.

We’ll also lengthen the clutch adjusting rod to slow the reaction time down.

    Congratulations on the win!!!

My son Dan’s car is still a work in progress…he is adding to make it double rail and some other changes to the frame and moving the firewall forward to give Him more legroom to the pedals. His motor is still in PA and he will be getting a new transmission from Rosslier in Ohio. Put new front wheels on and shaved 14 lbs of weight. Will have to make some suspension changes and such once everything is back together and working together. About the only thing that remains the same is the body and paint scheme.

Even got a used 48′ trailer with living quarters, used golf cart, and a used Duramax Dually to pull it all . I may name 2013 the year of changes!!! He hopes to be able to run about 4.0-4.1 in the 1/8th mile and go over 200 in the 1/4 mile. We will see…

    Best,
    Todd Ferguson
