    Bear, Waldo and Spurs,

I have a story about Veterans Wearing their medals I find revealing about our younger generation. Some years ago before I retired I was a civilian police supervisor at a small Army post (Rock Island Arsenal) and was giving the guard at an entrance a break. As I checked IDs of drivers arriving for work a young woman civillian employee said, “I see you are an old timer right? I said i certainly was old !! She asked, ” were you in the war?”
Again, I said yes. She pointed the the miniture CIB on my uniform shirt over my heart and said,”Is that little thing all you got in the war?” I said that is about it…. Anyway, I hope you will have better luck wearing your ribbons !! Al La Grange Rifles Squad Leader 68-70

I was reading the comment I wrote above and though I meant it as a light hearted jab at youth that lack understanding of the Military it was not meant to demean our youth or deter anyone from wearing their ribbons or badges. Today, I took my 5 year old grandaughter ,Keira, to a veteran’s free breakfast at a local grocery store that has a small section serving food. We were surrounded by Vets from all the Services and the staff was so respectful that my grandaughter was awestruck. When we got home she drew pictures of Soldiers and watched videos from the Spurs website. She says that she loves our Soldiers for keeping us safe and free. So maybe the youth of America is not lost and just needs us to teach them and inspire them to appreciate this special home we call America.
    Al, Rifles
