Roger "Bear" Young served with the Silver Spurs as a Scout crew chief and Line Chief from Dec '69 through Nov '70. Upon his return to the "world" he served at Hunter AAF as a Cobra Periodic Inspection team leader. He founded the Spur website in Sept 1997.

    Mr. Young any chance you knew my Dad, WO Ben Thompson. He was with the 3/17 70-71+- not exactly sure of the tour dates, but I do know we were stationed at Hunter AAF in 69-70. He was maintence and test flying the Cobra’s headed to Vietnam.
    While in country with the Cav, he was with B Troop, the Burning Stogies. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks for your post. I’m afraid I did not know your father but we followed similar paths. After my tour with the Spurs I was sent to Hunter as a P.E Team Leader on Cobras in 1971. Those were older Cobras that were being used for training ARVN pilots on the range at Ft. Stewart.
